Many of us nowadays have a tablet, either just for fun or for getting some serious work done. iPad from Apple is for sure the most popular choice for a tablet. I personally own an iPad 2 and I have enjoyed every bit of it. I use it for some casual readings before going to bed and sometimes for reading the lecture notes if I forgot to print. On the airplane, I can play some small lovely games to kill my time. Many people use iPad as a traditional notepad as well, for keeping their life organized. There are many apps out there that could simulate quite well like a real notepad. Today, I am going to introduce one of them, which is called "Paper".
One thing I like about Paper is that besides the regular features that other similar apps have, it has a more uniquely designed interface, which makes the note drawing more pleasant. Oh, did I mention that this app is free?
↑Upon launching the app, you will find three journals set by default and you can choose one of them by swiping. There are three buttons below. Trash is for deleting the current journal, middle button is for sharing, it's only available when you open a specific note, and + button is to create a new blank journal.
↑Use two fingers to pinch to zoom in, then the journal can be opened. Now you can see why I call this app is more aesthetic. The writing has a vintage look and paper is represented in a nice 3D view. You can swipe to jump between pages and press the + button to add blank pages and trash button to delete one.
↑By Clicking the share button, you can share your notes on your social network, so far, as you see, Tumblr, Facebook, Twitter and Email are supported.
↑Pinch to close the journal. Back in the journal selection panel, on the top right corner, there is a very tiny button you may probably miss out. Click on it, oh, it's for the journal setting. You can change the journal's name and its cover, even using your own photo!
↑I used one of my own photos for the cover. Does it look nicer? :)
⬆Okay. Back to its major feature, notes taking. You can reach this page by tapping the journal when it's in 3D view. What? you do not see the tool panel below? Don't worry. Just swipe from the bottom, you will get all these. There are 5 pen styles and 9 colors to choose from.
↑I used this to write my first note. It looks great! The ink is real-life like and smooth when I drew the lines.
↑I was eagle to try out other pen styles and this pops up. Oops, it looks like there is no free lunch after all. USD 1.99 for this, and actually for each of the rest pen styles. You can consider buying these if you want more variations in your notes style.
↑Let me make a To-Do for today.. The colors appear great. I guess that's why they offered limited number of choices.
↑The app is great for drawing too. A friend of mine has drawn this, haha. Not bad!
Summary
This app is wonderful in its simplicity and interface design. Ink trace is natural and colors are nicely matched with the theme. It is suitable for users to keep light and simple notes or draw ideas on the go. This app will be better if they could lower their in-app purchase price, say, 0.99 for one pen style?
Pros:
- Simple and aesthetic interface design
- Smooth and natural ink expression
- Share function makes life easier
Cons:
- More paper styles are needed, such as lines and grid, etc.
- In-app purchase is a bit too expensive
- We love to see more colors!
