The update of gadgets is getting really fast nowadays. Popular products like iPhone and iPad, get their update once a year. Some other phones or cameras are even updated once in 9 months or even shorter! Tech geeks like me probably feel hard to resist the attraction of the latest products. Then how about the toys in hand? Of course we should sell them, and salvage some money as the fund of purchasing new gears.
Selling things online would be the most convenient way but it sometimes may be frustrating as well due to various reasons and it is also interesting to know how we can get the most salvage value from our used gears. Today I am going to share some tips here when selling your gears online.
Tip 1 Sell your gear at the right time to get the most value.
As the majority of us tends to buy the latest products, so it is easier to sell your item at a higher price if the newer version is not released yet. If you know that the updated gadgets will be launched soon, sell your item fast. Otherwise, it depreciates sharply after the launch of new products and many users will sell similar products as well, which makes your item even less worthy.
Tip 2 Find the right place to post your items
Products should be posted on different sites according to their category. For example, a camera posted on a forum specialized in photography would have a better visibility than posted on a general electronic bazaar forum. eBay is a website that you can post almost anything, however, in the context of Singapore, you may find it hard to get a local buyer. Deals with International buyer can become very troublesome if something goes wrong. Therefore, I suggest it's best to post your item on a local forum and get your deal done locally. Based on my own experience in Singapore, if you sell gears for photography, clubsnap is the place to go to. If you are selling off phones and tablets, hardwarezone should have enough traffic. Of course there are many forum and websites out there. I believe it wouldn't take you too long to find them on Google.
Tip 3 Make your post clear and appealing
While posting online, you'll find many items are the same or similar, so how to make your post stand out and attract the potential buyers? First, you should write clearly what you have in hand, the brand, such as model number, purchase time, condition, and if there is any accessories included. It would be even better to upload a picture of your used item. The photo, of course, should look appealing to the buyers. So do spend some effort on taking good pictures! These small details will make your post much more trustworthy. Also, you can state why you are selling your item if there is a good reason. So putting reasons like 'it does not serve my purpose now' or 'I am still more used to another mobile system' are much better than "this product is hard to use". The bottom line here is to get the buyers' trust by carefully drafting your post and marketing your items.
Tip 4 Set your price right
You probably have absolutely no idea how much your gear is worth at present. So it is good to take a look at other posts that sells similar products and also the current market price for the brand item as you wouldn't want to exceed that. Also, you may vary your price according to the condition of your item. For example, the price can be higher if it's still under warranty or there is no noticeable use marks on your item.
After that, set your price range carefully, an upper bound and lower bound. Price too high may drive your buyers away without even asking, too low price obviously would not make you get the most value out of it. Then post the upper limit online and DON'T specify 'negotiable'. Then interested buyers would contact you and some may negotiate the price with you until it hits the lower limit of the price. Sometimes you are lucky enough that the buyer will just take the item without bargaining. So now you see the reason why you do not specify the price is negotiable, because then everyone would lower your price when they ask. If you are the kind of person that hates unnecessary bargaining, you can put 'price is firm' to avoid the trouble.
Tip 5 Prepare everything well when meeting up with the buyer
After the deal and price is agreed, you and the buyer will make an appointment of when and where to meet. You should remember to bring everything that you promised to sell in your post. Bring your original receipt if possible because some buyers may want that for a proof of purchase. After the buyer checks everything, then he/she will give the money to you and congratulations! The deal is done.
In all, selling your second-hand gears needs some tactics, but more importantly, you should always be sincere and buyers will trust you well. Posting false information will only bring you more hassle and you may lose more buyers as words are spreading fast on the Internet!
Hope you find some useful information in this post and enjoy your good Friday evening!
